The nurses had the paperwork done and everything ready for us to go. They said as soon as we were ready we could leave the hospital and take our sweet new little boy home. The only problem was we were not ready. We still needed to finish that yellow form sitting in front of us. It was several pages long and every line had been filled out, even the last line requesting our signatures. Every line that is except the two blanks near the top saying “First Name” and “Middle Name”.
Throughout our pregnancy people would ask if we had a name picked out yet. Our answer was always “No”. I think many people did not believe us, thinking we just wanted to keep the name to ourselves until after he was born. But it was the truth. As we sat in our hospital room debating what to write on that birth certificate form we truly could not decide. We went back and forth changing our minds over and over. We sat there debating for almost two hours before we made our final decision. As we put the pen to the paper to fill out those last two blanks we felt happy and confident about our choice.
William Robert
Will,
We want you to know about your name and why we chose it for you. You were named after two special men. William, after your mom’s dad, your Grandpa Bill. Robert after your dad’s dad, your Grandpa Ossmen. We hope that you look up to these two wonderful men as you grow older and look to them as examples of how to live. We hope you are kind to others as these two are. We hope you are generous to others as these two are. We hope you learn to work hard like these two do. We hope you treat your current family and your future family with love as these two do. We hope you learn to have fun as these two do. We hope you love and serve the Lord as these two do.
You are one month old now and it has been an absolute joy having you a part of our family. Your older brother and sisters adore you and your mom and dad love everything about you. Thank you for joining our family!
